AURA is filled with music. You probably can’t hear the music, but each page of the book was written with my headphones on and the songs cranked up high. Roughly 90% of the music that AURA was written to was contemporary Christian, but I will admit that about 10% was not. While some of the events in my life were the original inspiration for AURA, music helps to add color to those memories.
The Christian artists that I listen to the most are Britt Nicole, Steven Curtis Chapman, MercyMe, Matthew West, Third Day, Kutless, Building 429 and Nichole Nordeman. The non-Christian music is all over the place, The Beatles, ABBA, Taylor Swift and Hugh Grant & Haley Bennett (a few of you should be able to figure that one out!)
Music tells its own story, but it also helps bring out the stories of the Senses Novels because the songs touch certain emotions. These emotions are often the ones that I want to evoke in the reader. I am not the only author that builds their literary worlds to music, many of us do.
