Did you know that there was a miracle that Jesus performed that no one ever talks about? In fact, no one even realizes that it was a miracle and it likely wasn't realized as a miracle at the time. It can be found in Mark 11: 1 - 7.
1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it.
Did you catch it? A donkey colt (male) on which no one has ever sat. Yet Jesus was immediately able to sit on him. Anyone with donkeys will tell you that such a thing really isn't possible. You have to get know them and earn their trust before you could even consider it. Donkeys are fairly intelligent and would not be too happy for someone to simply take that kind of liberties with them. To make it even worse, the actual terminology is for the donkey is Onager, or wild donkey.
So, why is this important?
Jesus was fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
But wasn't all He was doing. He was showing that he had dominion over ALL living things. Throughout the New Testament we see Jesus cast out demons, heal the sick, cause trees to wilt and die, and raise the dead. This is the first time we see the He has power over all living creatures. He also said that we, as His children and priests have power. The implication is that WE should have dominion over all living creatures. But do we?
There is a video circulating that was shot on March 8, 2024 of two zoo keepers that got trapped in a gorilla enclosure with a silver back gorilla. In the video you can hear two people praying for the safety of the zoo keepers. While the gorilla did charge the zoo keepers, it never got close and, in fact, retreated to another part of the enclosure allowing the two zoo keepers to safely exit.
Was it prayer that saved their lives? There are, naturally, some people that will never be convinced of the power of prayer. True Christians don't even have a doubt about it. This was a small miracle in comparison to others that have happened, but two people get to continue living their lives, so was it really small?
It's a shame that so many miracles get 'lost' today due to derision and scoffers. All I can tell you is, according to the Word, this is the way it is supposed to be. We know what is coming and what has to happen before everything is made right.
Our hope is not in the things of this world. Keep praying, keep believing. Miracles happen every day, we just have to be open to them.
