I
just wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. While many will say, “Remember
the reason for the season”, I would like for you to stop, take a moment, and
really reflect on it.
We
give presents to each other, yet it isn’t our
birthday (in most cases.) No, there isn’t anything wrong with giving each other
gifts and sharing your love. It would be nice if everyone did it all year.
Still, don’t you think that we should give the person that the holiday was
named after a gift too?
But,
I hear you cry, how can we give Jesus a gift? The hint, I think, is in Matthew
25: 35-40:
35 for I was hungry
and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and
you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited
Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
37 “Then the
righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed
You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take
You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison,
and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you
did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
I
put the keywords in bold. While you are giving gifts to loved ones and friends
this season, maybe you could glance outside your comfort zone and see the
homeless person, the child without a warm coat or the lonely one with no family
to spend Christmas with? If you won’t do it just because you should, maybe you
can do it as a Christmas present to the person that this season is all about.
I
pray that you all have a wonderful holiday and stay safe if you are traveling.
