Are these the ‘End Times?’ The series focuses on just that, the time described in Revelations. But, are we living in the end times? That’s not as difficult to answer as you might think.
If you read Matthew 24, you will find that Jesus gave us a pretty fair description of the when the end times will be. Oh, don’t look for a year, month or day, it doesn’t work like that, very few prophecies do. But the reality is, we have been living in the end times since Jesus ascended.
The things that He describes have been happening all through our history. Many have come in His name, deceiving us. There have been wars and natural disasters. Christians have been persecuted and handed over to die for centuries, and it is still going on. So, these are and have been the end times for the last two thousand years or so. If the question is, “When is Jesus coming back?” That’s a different matter entirely.
Here is what the Lord said, Matthew 42:42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” So, when someone gives you a specific time, they are lying. Period.
If we are always expecting His return, how can He come back? Here is my thought. I think that the entire world will be so distracted or in such distress that all belief about when He will return is going to be driven from the minds of everyone. It is at that moment that He will arrive. Does that make sense?
So, we are to keep watch, but we are not going to know the hour, and we are not going to be expecting Him. To be as clear as possible, God’s timing is His own. We just cannot fathom it. That isn’t a sin; it’s to be expected.
I hope that you are having a great weekend.
