In AURA, our hero resurrects one of the other main characters. He, himself is, well, if you haven’t read the book, I’ll let you find out for yourself. But that isn’t the kind of living again that I’m talking about here.
Unless you purposely ignore the news or live under a rock, you are constantly bombarded by any and everything bad that happens in our world. From Presidential gaffs to foreign terrorism, it seems that we cannot escape the rot that has infected the media. Please, I’m not going to go into the whole ‘fake news’ thing with you. I am going to say that media outlets are going to push sensationalism. It isn’t anything new, and it isn’t going to go away.
When you tie all of that to the miraculous handheld device we call smartphones, there is simply no way for us to get away. I am as guilty as anyone. I carry my phone just about everywhere. I sometimes wonder if I would have separation anxiety if I were away from it for any length of time? If you are reading this, then you have at least one social media account. You are shackled to ‘the system’ and probably check it at least once a day.
None of this is living. It is existing in a make-believe world that depends on others to help fill it. If you have ever suffered from depression and managed to even temporarily overcome it, then you already know what I’m talking about.
Living isn’t about life, it’s about purpose. Most of you are aware that I’m a Christian. My goal is to find a way to fulfill Christ’s last command, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you.” I try to do this through my books.
To be frank, I don’t know what your purpose is. I do know that you won’t live until you find it and start carrying it out. The only starting point that I can give you is to ask, “What are you best at?” Everyone has at least one thing that they are best at. Then ask, “How can I use this to stop focusing on myself?” And that is the ultimate secret of living again. Stop focusing on the calamities that are being fed to you each and every day. Stop focusing on yourself.
I have said a prayer for everyone who reads this blog post. I pray that all of you find your purpose and learn how to live again.
