The first thing that you see when looking for a book is the cover. The adage, don’t judge a book by its cover simply doesn’t work in today’s society. Thousands of eBooks are published every month and competition for your attention is fierce.
The hook, the thing that catches your eye and draws you in is the cover of the book. If it looks interesting, you may stop long enough to read the description. If that sounds like something that fits your tastes, you might read a sample chapter or two and then, finally make a $0.99 purchase. Think about that for a moment. We (I include myself) will spend $4.00 or $5.00 for a fancy cup of coffee, some people do it every day, without a second thought, but you put incredible effort in before you buy an eBook. A lot of people put that effort in even if the book is free!
This is the reason that authors will try to get the best cover that they can. It is also why eBook authors will change covers, sometimes several times, trying to find the one that fits and seems to attract people.
