Each of the books in the Senses Novels deals with a character that we would undoubtedly think of as having superpowers. In most, but not all, cases, the characters have the time and training to master their abilities to some extent. Even so, superpowers can bring super problems.
The world that we live in does not readily accept anything that deviates too far from the norm. Since the 1930’s we’ve had our superheroes in comic books, but if one were to show up in real life? In today’s world, there immediately be laws passed, concerned citizen committees and protests demanding that everyone be given superpowers (or at least their specific group.)
I hate to break it to you America but so far, we are comprised of roughly:
61.6% White
17.6% Hispanic
13.3% African American
5.6% Asian
1.2% Native American
0.7% Mixed
0.0% Superheroes
Those aren’t my numbers; they belong to the United States Census Bureau. Or maybe, just maybe, the superheroes that we could use today are just better at hiding themselves than we could imagine?
