THE LOUDEST VOICES

I am saddened by the way too much of what I have written about and continue to write in the Senses Novels is coming to pass. The polarization of the United States of America is almost complete. The last President made absolutely sure that race was and always would be a prime political issue by helping to create the most divisive culture that this country has ever seen in his constant rushes to judgement (“he could have been my son…”) I rarely criticize our current President, but he hasn’t helped matters by not denouncing specific white supremacist organizations.

There is an ancient saying, one that dates back to the time of Aesop the fabulist, that’s more than 500-hundred years before the birth of Christ. The saying is, “United we stand, divided we fall.” It is truer today than it has ever been.

I believe that debate and protest are an essential part of our democratic republic. The problem is that today, we have a large segment that is trying to stifle that process so that just one idea is promoted. Unfortunately, this segment is backed by the majority of the media in the mistaken belief that they will have some kind of ‘power’ or ‘in’ with this large group, these elitists who want to control everything that the rest of us think, say and do. Make no mistake, while it is presented in various forms, this group is pushing a single overriding agenda.

What I am going to write next may sound hurtful to some, but it is the plain and simple truth. I do not owe the African American, Native American, women, gays, or any other supposedly oppressed group in the United States either an apology or reparations of any kind and I resent the idea that ANY of my representatives in Congress would approve of such. But it really isn’t about apologies or reparations. The goal of this large group is to make us feel guilty and unworthy of who we are. That makes us easier to control. And that is what this is about, control, just as it has been from the beginning. No, I’m not talking about some vast secret conspiracy, people have had the desire to have power over others since time immemorial.

If we, as a nation, allow a single group of people to dictate who we are, then we are lost, and Nikita Khrushchev, former Premier of the Soviet Union back in 1964, will have been right when he said, “your children will be communists.” Now, some of you might not think that’s such a bad thing. The conditions in Venezuela argue otherwise, the former satellite countries of the Soviet Union argue otherwise, and the ordinary person in North Korea would argue otherwise.

If all we listen to are the loudest voices because that is all that is being reported, then we are the fools. I think that people should remember that Hitler had a very loud voice.
